What Blade of the Immortal Is About
A swordsman who cannot die becomes the protector of a girl whose family was killed. She wants revenge; he wants death. The film builds immortality as a punishment rather than a power: every wound closes, so no fight resolves anything. The narrative moves in chapters, each bringing a new opponent. It was announced as Takashi Miike's hundredth film. Adapted from a long manga series, its closing mass battle was staged with hundreds of performers. A real warning: severed limbs and blood are constant and detailed. If you do not know this side of Miike, it is far harsher than you expect.
