Sun Scarred

Katayama steps in when he sees an innocent man being beaten in the street and gets the better of the attackers. The young leader of the gang answers for it by abducting and killing his daughter. The rest of the film is the father tracing that group. Takashi Miike directed. Toshimichi Ohkawa wrote the screenplay and Koji Endo the score, with Masato Kaneko as cinematographer, Yasushi Shimamura editing and Kozo Tadokoro producing. Show Aikawa plays Katayama, with Aiko Sato, Kenichi Endo, Sei Hiraizumi and Yutaka Matsushige in the cast. It runs 120 minutes and is set in Yokohama. It is among the lesser-known entries in the hundreds of productions Miike has made, and even the sourcing on it is thin. Who it is for: viewers interested in Japanese revenge films and in Miike's more conventionally told work. Who it is not for: anyone expecting one of his famous films. This one lives in their shadow, and there is little verifiable written about it.
