What Anniyan Is About
Three hours long. Ambi is a colourless lawyer, rigid about rules, who cannot bear the injustice around him; when the woman he loves rejects him, two further personalities come out of him. One is Remo, a flashy figure who can impress her; the other is Anniyan, an outlaw who kills people who break rules. Anniyan takes his punishments from the descriptions in the Garuda Purana. Vikram plays all three and is known for it. Shankar directed. Two notes: the film's version of multiple personality is fiction with no medical basis, and its premise, that small civic infractions deserve death, sits badly now.
