What Blessed Benefit Is About
A mild mannered Jordanian contractor, imprisoned on an unfair charge of fraud, discovers that prison has rhythms, rules and economies of its own. Before long he begins to carve out a place for himself there, because inside, fraud is less a crime than a way of life. The film shows the prison as neither terrible nor entertaining; it gives it as a working order and lets us feel how much it resembles the order outside. The account has no interest in proving the man innocent and hardly ever leaves the prison. Ahmad Thaher plays the lead in Mahmoud al Massad’s eighty three minute Jordanian film, completed in 2017.
