Traudl Junge What Blind Spot: Hitler's Secretary Is About
The documentary by André Heller and Othmar Schmiderer puts Traudl Junge, who was Hitler's private secretary from 1942 to 1945, in front of a camera at the age of eighty one. The film makes no argument: the directors do not intervene, there is no archive footage and no narrator. What is on screen is a woman talking and what she remembers, including the last days in the bunker and Hitler dictating his will to her. She also describes how she came to see her own account later, so the documentary is at the same time a person putting her own past on trial. Members of Heller's family were killed in Nazi camps, which is worth knowing about who is sitting beside the film as its listener.
