What Blind Spot Is About
Tuva Novotny’s first film as a director was shot in a single take, and the story runs in real time. It begins as an ordinary day and then opens onto how completely a family has failed to see what is happening to their daughter, and from there it moves into hospital corridors. Alongside the professional cast, real healthcare workers appear as themselves, from ambulance crews to emergency doctors. Novotny shot the whole thing three times, since lighting and continuity made cutting impossible, and what reached the screen is the third attempt. Pia Tjelta, Anders Baasmo Christiansen and Nora Mathea Øien take the leads. It opened in Norway in August 2018 and played at Toronto that September.
