Bloody Hell

Rex, played by Ben O'Toole, becomes famous after single-handedly stopping a bank robbery, and then goes to prison because a civilian died in the process. When he gets out he flies to Finland to escape the attention. On his first day out of the airport he is abducted and wakes in a basement with one of his feet cut off. From there the film's idea takes over. Rex talks to his own consciousness in the basement, and that consciousness appears on screen as a second Rex, played physically by the same actor. The two argue, shout at each other and make plans. It is the mechanism that carries the film across the gap between horror and comedy. Alister Grierson directed. It is an Australian production and it deliberately refuses to hold a steady tone, moving constantly between the bloody passages and the jokes. Who it is for: viewers who like horror with black comedy and genre mixing. Who it is not for: anyone with no tolerance for graphic violence, or who wants a consistent register.
