Bodyguard

A policeman under suspension has to find work. He is hired as bodyguard to a wealthy woman. The job looks simple, but there is a death in the woman's circle from some time back, and the policeman starts digging into it. Before long he finds a murder pinned on him. Now he is both running and trying to clear his own name. Richard Fleischer's film is a sixty-two minute B picture. In those years Fleischer was making short, cheap, fast crime films at RKO before moving to large productions. Lawrence Tierney takes the lead. Part of the story was written by Robert Altman, one of his first jobs before he became a director. Inside the noir pattern, pace comes before everything.
