Born in '45

The film is about a newly married young couple in East Berlin coming to the point of separating. Both belong to a generation born in the year the war ended, and both are questioning whether the life laid out for them actually suits them. The account builds no great event and simply follows a few days and some walking about the city. The production was banned in 1966 and never shown in East Germany; it reached an audience only after reunification in 1990. The ban kept the film out of sight for twenty four years; the voice of that generation could be heard only after a delay that long. Rolf Romer plays the lead in Jurgen Bottcher’s ninety five minute German film, completed in 1966.
