Breslin and Hamill: Deadline Artists

Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill were newspaper columnists in New York. Both of them wrote the city from the street. They stood inside events rather than at a desk. Both were regarded as courageous in what they wrote. The documentary sets their work side by side. Passages from their columns are read out. There is archive footage as well. Colleagues and readers speak. Gloria Steinem and Gay Talese are among them. New York itself is part of the story. The changing of the city is followed through their writing. The film looks back at a period of journalism. Both of them were writing about a city they loved. Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill speak in the hundred and six minute documentary, an American production John Block, Jonathan Alter and Stephen McCarthy finished in 2018.
