Brittany Runs a Marathon

A twenty-eight year old living haphazardly in New York goes to a doctor and does not get the prescription she wanted. She tries to run one block and cannot. The film sets running up as a story of transformation, but its real interest lies elsewhere: as she loses weight she becomes harder on herself, and treats the people around her the same way. The film does not drop that second line and makes it the subject at the close. Paul Downs Colaizzo wrote and directed, drawing on a friend's real experience. Jillian Bell leads. Before watching: the film talks constantly about weight, scales and bodies, and some viewers found that it presents losing weight as the condition of happiness. Watch it aware of that criticism.
