The Big Sick

Michael Showalter's 2017 film follows a Pakistani comedian. His family want to arrange a marriage for him. His girlfriend falls into a coma. The film runs the relationship alongside the meeting of the families; the narrative does not present either side as one-dimensional and keeps its humour going in the hospital.
