The Irishman

Martin Scorsese's 2019 film follows Frank Sheeran, a truck driver who goes to work for the mob. The narrative looks back from his old age. His relationship with the union leader Jimmy Hoffa is at the centre. The film tells a crime story without exalting it; the narrative makes the violence ordinary and builds its final section entirely on loneliness. Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci lead.
