Brotherly Love

Brotherly Love, written and directed by Jamal Hill, is a coming-of-age drama set at Philadelphia's Overbrook High School (also Will Smith's alma mater), following a high school basketball star's struggle to handle fame. It stars Keke Palmer and Cory Hardrict, with Queen Latifah serving as executive producer through her own company, Flavor Unit Films. Hill describes the film as "largely autobiographical," drawing on his own observations from his teenage years after moving from New York to Philadelphia, though the story itself is fictionalized. Made on a budget of 1.9 million dollars, the film grossed just 478,600 dollars at the box office. Who it's for: anyone curious about a basketball drama set in Philadelphia, fictionalized from a director's own high school observations. Who it's not for: viewers looking for a film with strong box office performance, since this grossed far below its budget.
