What Buddies Is About
Stalone, Aninha and Marcio have lived in the same institution for as long as they can remember. All three have Down syndrome, all three love films, and all three work in the institution's video library. One day, after watching Thelma and Louise, they decide: they will take the gardener's old car and run. So they set off. Each of them wants one simple thing. Stalone wants to see the sea, Aninha wants to find a husband, Marcio wants to fly. Marcelo Galvão's film is Brazilian. The leads are played by actors who actually have Down syndrome: Ariel Goldenberg, Breno Viola and Rita Pokk. It is built as a road movie, but what it is really about is that nobody expects anything of these three.
