Bull

Bull, who disappeared ten years ago, comes back. He finds his former partners, his father-in-law and everyone who betrayed him, one at a time. What he is after is not money but his son. The violence escalates scene by scene and the reason is disclosed late. Paul Andrew Williams wrote and directed, already known for London to Brighton. Neil Maskell plays Bull. The structure runs on two clocks: today's revenge tour and what happened ten years ago advance together, and the viewer assembles the pieces late. Maskell plays it entirely calm, and that calm is the most disturbing thing here; he does not shout, does not explain, simply acts. The film steps out of the usual realism of British crime cinema toward the supernatural and never explains the move. The ending therefore redefines what genre you have been watching. At seventy-seven minutes it never stops to breathe. Who it is for: viewers who like hard British revenge films and genre blends. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a realistic frame, or with no tolerance for graphic violence.
