Dragonfly

Paul Andrew Williams's 2025 British film follows Elsie, an elderly woman living alone, and her neighbour Colleen. Elsie's son lives far away and rarely visits; Colleen begins caring for her and a closeness forms. The idea is whose work care is. Colleen's help is voluntary and unpaid, but when the son arrives he sees the relationship as a threat and intervenes to cover his own neglect. Andrea Riseborough and Brenda Blethyn lead. The narrative begins calmly and drifts into tension; the final section is harsh and prepared for. The production is small in scale and takes place almost entirely in two flats. Who it's for: those who like British social drama. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a comforting resolution; the film ends in violence and shows elder abuse directly.
