Bumpy

Lost in the forest while picking strawberries, the siblings Kusti and Iti fall into the hands of a wicked forest witch and are made to work for her. The witch has a son called Bumpy, and when Iti looks after this bad tempered, half wild child with patience, he slowly begins to change. When a chance to escape appears, the siblings decide to take him with them. Helle Karis’s seventy five minute Estonian film was adapted from a 1920 book by Oskar Luts and was Tallinnfilm’s first full length fairy tale feature. The music is by Olav Ehala and its songs became as loved as the film itself. It won the grand prize of both the children’s jury and the audience at the all-union film festival in 1982.
