Bungee Jumping of Their Own

Bungee Jumping of Their Own is director Kim Dae-seung's feature debut, written by Go Eun-nim. The film follows a man who lost the woman he loved in 1983, and seventeen years later, now a high school teacher, encounters a male student who strikingly resembles his lost love, exploring a reincarnation theme; it opened on February 2, 2001, drawing 947,000 admissions to rank as 2001's tenth most watched film in South Korea. Screenwriter Go Eun-nim won Best Screenplay at three separate award ceremonies, the Baeksang Arts Awards, Grand Bell Awards, and Blue Dragon Film Awards. The film was adapted into a stage musical in 2012 and remade in Thailand as Dew in 2019. Who it's for: anyone curious about a director's debut whose screenplay won Best Screenplay at three separate award ceremonies, later adapted into both a musical and a foreign remake. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a film that stays within one clear genre, since this blends romantic drama with a fantastical reincarnation theme.
