Bye-Bye

After his brother Nouredine dies in a fire, the young Tunisian Ismael goes with his younger brother Mouloud to their uncle in Marseille. On top of the grief he is carrying guilt. There he becomes friends with Jacky, whose father and older brother hate immigrants. Mouloud, who is fourteen, attaches himself to their cousin Rhida, who deals hash. When Ismael decides to send the boy back to Tunisia, he runs off. The film tells the coming apart of an immigrant family and the everyday form of racism together. Sami Bouajila plays the lead in Karim Dridi’s hundred and four minute French film, completed in 1995.
