Neil G. Young What Cane Toads: The Conquest Is About
In 1935 two thousand four hundred cane toads were brought to Australia. The purpose was to fight the beetle damaging the sugar cane. The toads were released into the wild in Queensland. They did not eat the beetles, but they multiplied fast. Today they are still spreading from the north of the continent towards the west. The poison they carry kills native animals that try to eat them. The documentary tells that spread by following the toad. Along the way it also shows the odd relationships people have formed with them. The account never lets go of its humour without making light of the matter. Mark Lewis directed this eighty five minute Australian documentary, completed in 2010.
