Captain Clegg

Captain Clegg, directed by Peter Graham Scott for Hammer Film Productions, is a pirate smuggling film inspired by Russell Thorndike's Doctor Syn character. Peter Cushing stars as Captain Clegg, a former smuggler hiding behind the identity of a village parson; Oliver Reed also appears in the cast. The film was released in the US under the title Night Creatures, because Hammer already owed Universal-International a film by that name and renamed the finished film to fulfill that obligation. Who it's for: anyone curious about a classic Hammer studio production about a village parson secretly hiding a former life as a pirate. Who it's not for: viewers searching for the film under its original title in the US, since it was distributed there under an entirely different name, Night Creatures.
