Carnage: Swallowing the Past

The year is 2067. Britain is entirely vegan and nobody eats animals. The film is built as though looking back from there: archive clips, news bulletins, experts talking. What it tells is how the change happened. The older generation lives with a heavy guilt; the young struggle to understand what their elders ate, and it comes up in therapy. The real subject is forgiveness, and how angry to be at that generation. Simon Amstell wrote and directed this mockumentary of sixty-five minutes and narrates it himself, with Martin Freeman, Joanna Lumley and Eileen Atkins in the cast. It argues openly for veganism and makes no secret of it, and the comedy comes from exactly that.
