Carry On Jatta

Jass falls for Mahie, but she wants to marry an orphan and no one else. Jass says he has no family and lets the lie grow, and the two of them marry. From there the film builds an order in which one lie turns into a chain of them, everyone is hiding something from everyone and mistaken identities pile on top of each other; the familiar quick rhythm of Punjabi comedy works well here. Smeep Kang directed, with Gippy Grewal as Jass and Mahie Gill opposite him, and Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon and Jaswinder Bhalla in the cast. It opened on 27 July 2012, took around eighteen crore and became one of the biggest earning Punjabi films of the year. Its success produced two sequels, in 2018 and 2023.
