What Casa Grande Is About
Jean lives behind high walls in a wealthy district of Rio de Janeiro and worries about nothing beyond school, games and girls. But his father's business has collapsed and he is telling nobody: first the driver goes, then one of the servants, then the pool maintenance. Forced onto a bus, Jean sees the city outside the walls for the first time and meets Luiza. The title is the Brazilian term for the master's house of the slavery era, and the choice is not accidental. Barbosa handles class and race not through speeches but through the relationships inside the house.
