What Catch the Wind Is About
In Gaël Morel’s 2017 film, Edith is forty-five and working in a textile factory when the company’s cuts effectively remove her life from under her. She is estranged from her son, has nothing else holding her, and rather than accept unemployment she does something else entirely: she gives up her settlement and follows the factory to Tangier. The film reverses the usual direction of migration and makes the European worker the one who leaves, then examines language, adjustment and acceptance from that position. Sandrine Bonnaire plays Edith. Morel wrote the script with the Moroccan writer Rachid O, and it screened at Toronto.
