What Cerro Torre: A Snowball's Chance in Hell Is About
The documentary tells of the first free ascent of the mountain Cerro Torre in Patagonia. That mountain has long been counted among the hardest places in the world to climb, and an argument has run around it for years: how earlier ascents were made and what should count and what should not. The film follows a young climber’s preparation, his failed attempts and at last his ascent, while also giving room to the history of the mountain and to the sides in that argument. The account gives the climb not as a display of heroism but as long preparation and trying over and over. Thomas Dirnhofer’s hundred and one minute documentary was completed in 2013.
