What Chal Mera Putt Is About
A group of Punjabi migrants living in Birmingham get by working without permits, and the trouble is the same for all of them: putting their papers right. They work in restaurant kitchens, on building sites and in shops, share the same house and tell no one about each other’s situation. When Pakistani friends join them, people from both sides of the border end up in the same kitchen, and the film draws its humour from that company. Janjot Singh’s hundred and twenty four minute Punjabi film treats migration neither as drama nor as crime; it describes it as an ordinary condition. Amrinder Gill, Simi Chahal and Iftikhar Thakur appear; it was completed in 2019.
