What Chashme Buddoor Is About
Two of the three friends sharing a flat take turns trying to impress the girl who has just moved into the neighbourhood, and take turns being humiliated. The third, the shy one who never looks up from his books, meets her without any strategy at all and it works. When the other two find out, jealousy and the fear of having their own tall tales exposed send them scheming to break the couple up. Sai Paranjpye wrote and directed it, adapting her own teleplay Dhuan Dhuan, and it opened in May 1981. The chemistry between Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval is what the film is most remembered for, with Saeed Jaffrey, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Baswani and Leela Mishra alongside them.
