Ernest Prakasa's 2022 Indonesian film continues the first and follows the present of two brothers who have taken over the family shop. Erwin wants to marry but his prospective father-in-law does not consider his work respectable enough; Yohan is under pressure to have a child. Its strength is telling the daily life of a Chinese Indonesian family from inside and without cliche. Prakasa's humour is observational; the jokes come out of how a family speaks to itself. The story carries its two lines in balance and builds emotional weight through the father's illness. For anyone who has not seen the first film the characters' histories stay incomplete. Who it's for: viewers who like Indonesian comedy and family stories. Who it's not for: anyone unfamiliar with the first film, or expecting sharp social criticism.
