What Children of Don Quixote Is About
The doctor who runs a maternity hospital is known in the neighbourhood as Don Quixote because he lives by such strict moral standards, and he raises his sons the same way. In the house there is an eldest son who wants to be a painter, a middle son dreaming of going north, and a youngest who wants to be Gagarin, with a mother who has her own profession and her own patience. The sons turn out worthy of their father, though the price is paid in difficulties both serious and comic. Yevgeni Karelov’s Mosfilm production was finished in 1965, opened in February 1966 and was seen by more than twenty million people in the Soviet Union. Anatoliy Papanov plays the father.
