What Chronically Unfeasible Is About
Shot over five years, the film puts Brazil itself on the table by way of six people who meet in a restaurant in Sao Paulo. Class, race, poverty and the comfortable arrangement the middle class has made with its own conscience are opened up one at a time. Sergio Bianchi uses humour hard and uncomfortably; he rescues nobody and gives the audience no rest either. The title is already a diagnosis: chronically unfeasible. One of the sharpest examples of the self critical strand rising in Brazilian cinema at the turn of the century.
