What Cleveland Versus Wall Street Is About
On 11 January 2008, on behalf of the City of Cleveland, the lawyer Josh Cohen and his team filed suit against twenty one banks. The claim was that those banks were responsible for the wave of foreclosures that had left the city in ruins. Since then the banks have done everything they can to avoid going to court. The film tells the story of that case. The hearing may never take place; but the facts, the people and the testimony in the film are real. The judge, the lawyers, the witnesses and the jurors asked to give a verdict all play themselves. Witness by witness, the account opens up how subprime mortgage lending worked. The ninety four minutes are given to a single hearing. Jean-Stéphane Bron’s film, a joint French and Swiss production, was completed in 2010.
