What Come Here, Mukhtar! Is About
Mukhtar is a German shepherd whose owner gives him to a police unit. Glazychev is assigned to him as handler. The two do not get on at first; the dog is looking for his old home and the man does not know him. In time a bond forms between them and together they work through one case after another, large and small. Semyon Tumanov's Soviet film uses Yuri Nikulin in an unfamiliar part: an actor known as a comedian plays a quiet, worn-out man here. The film was much loved in the Soviet Union, and Mukhtar stayed a name for dogs for a generation. The telling is emotional but not overdone; its real subject is how trust is built.
