Mark Rudinshtein What Come Look at Me Is About
An elderly woman confined to her bed frets that her daughter has still not married. The daughter, believing her mother is near the end of her life, wants to make her happy one last time and introduces a stranger who has come to the door as her boyfriend. The lie starts over the course of one evening and then goes somewhere nobody can easily get out of. Oleg Yankovsky and Mikhail Agranovich adapted the film from Nadezhda Ptushkina's play. Almost all of it takes place in a single apartment, and its strength comes from the lines three actors throw at each other. Yankovsky both directs and plays the stranger; Yekaterina Vasilyeva is the mother and Irina Kupchenko the daughter. A sweet, sad Russian comedy that stays close to the stage.
