What Coming Apart Is About
A psychiatrist installs a hidden camera in his consulting room and records the women who come to him without their knowledge. What begins as an experiment is a plain abuse of the professional relationship, and the collapse he ends up recording is his own. Milton Moses Ginsberg wrote and directed, shooting the whole film into a mirror from a single fixed camera position in a one-room apartment; the camera moves only when the man repositions it for another encounter. Made for sixty thousand dollars, it opened in New York on 26 October 1969 and was then left in obscurity for more than twenty-five years. Rip Torn, Sally Kirkland and Viveca Lindfors star.
