A small Australian prison film. Ray is a veteran who gets eighteen months for manslaughter after defending his fiancée, and goes into the old gaol at Parramatta, a place the first convicts built themselves. Inside, the man who runs the wing takes against him and does everything he can to break him, reaching as far as the fiancée. George Basha wrote it, directed it and plays the lead. It follows the genre's usual shape and the violence is heavy. Taken without large expectations, it holds together, and it is hard going.
