What Crescendo Is About
Eduard Sporck, a world-famous conductor, accepts the job of putting together an orchestra of young Israeli and Palestinian musicians and finds himself inside a set of problems that look unsolvable. The rehearsals turn out to be less about music than about how close these young people can get to one another. Dror Zahavi’s German production takes its inspiration from the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra founded by Daniel Barenboim. It screened at the Munich International Film Festival on 3 July 2019, opened in Germany in January 2020 and took a Cinema for Peace honorary award that year. Peter Simonischek plays the Austrian conductor, with Bibiana Beglau, Daniel Donskoy and Sabrina Amali also in the cast.
