What Crime Story Is About
Eddie Chan, a policeman assigned to protect a wealthy businessman, fails to stop him being ambushed and taken. Working the case with a seasoned detective, he finds it is far more tangled than it looked and that somebody on the inside is involved. Based on a real kidnapping, the film pushes Jackie Chan completely outside his usual register: there are no crowd pleasing gags here, only a frightened and exhausted policeman. Directed by Kirk Wong, it is remembered as one of the darkest things Chan has done.
