What Criminal Woman: Killing Melody Is About
A woman’s father has been pushed into dealing drugs by the local yakuza and then killed once he is of no further use; she is attacked by the same men. She tries to knife the boss in a smart nightclub, fails, and ends up in prison, where she meets a crew of other malcontents and the boss’s girlfriend. On release she reassembles her group and sets a plan running that will turn two clans against each other; as the gangs kill each other off she moves closer to her revenge. Directed by Atsushi Mihori for Toei, the film belongs to the studio’s pinky violence line and is the last one Reiko Ike and Miki Sugimoto made together. It is the only standalone title in the box set of that line; the trailer called it the first of a new series, but no sequel was ever made.
