Crossroads: One Two Jaga

The account is set in Kuala Lumpur. It takes place in the outskirts and the back alleys of the city. Several people’s paths cross there. What they all have in common is money trouble. Sugiman is an Indonesian labourer on a building site. He is raising a child on his own. His sister Sumiyati cleans in other people’s houses. She has no papers and she wants to go back home. That leaves the two of them at the mercy of a boss. Out on the street a system of bribes is at work. The part the police play in it is the main subject of the film. When the paths cross the outcome is heavy. Zahiril Adzim and Ario Bayu take the leads, with Asmara Abigail and Rosdeen Suboh also in the cast, in Namron’s Malaysian film of 2018.
