Curious George

An animated film adapted from the Curious George books. Ted works at a museum. The museum has no visitors and is at risk of closing. He is sent to Africa to find a giant statue. He does not find what he is looking for, but a monkey attaches itself to him on the way back and comes with him to New York. George means no harm; he is simply curious about everything and touches it. The comedy comes from the chains of accidents that curiosity sets off. What stands out in the production is the visual choice. At a time when computer animation had become standard, the film was made in hand-drawn 2D and stayed with the drawing style of the books; soft colours, plain lines. The music and songs are by Jack Johnson, and the film's calm register comes largely from there. Will Ferrell voices Ted and Drew Barrymore the teacher he is interested in. A suitable choice for anyone who likes animation for small children and adaptations of classic books. For an adult viewer the film is built entirely for children; there is no second layer of humour and the narrative is very simple.
