The Lion King

Jon Favreau's 2019 film is a computer-generated version of the animation of the same name. The story and most of the scenes are kept intact. The images were produced close to documentary realism. That choice caused argument; because the animal faces carry no expression, the emotional effect of the narrative was said to weaken. Donald Glover and Beyoncé are among the voices, and James Earl Jones continues in his role. The music is kept and a new song added. Who it's for: those interested in the visual technology and fond of the original. Who it's not for: viewers expecting the expressive power of animation; the film gives that up deliberately.
