The Lion King II: Simba's Pride

Darrell Rooney directed this animation with Rob LaDuca as co-director, setting Simba and Nala’s daughter Kiara against Kovu, who comes from a pride driven into exile. Rooney called it the biggest love story they had, adding that here you understand the parents in a way the Shakespeare play never allows. Kovu was first written as Scar’s own son, making him Kiara’s relative; that changed after long argument among Disney executives, as Variety reported. The drawing was not done in California. Most came from Disney’s television animation studio in Sydney, with storyboarding in Burbank and extra work from its Canadian studio and Manila’s Toon City. How you first saw it depended on where you lived: in the United States and Canada it went on sale on VHS on 27 October 1998, while Europe and Latin America got a cinema run in spring 1999. Elton John and Tim Rice did not return; Nick Glennie-Smith wrote the score. My Lullaby, sung by Zira, was written by Joss Whedon with Scott Warrender and performed by Suzanne Pleshette with Andy Dick as Nuka. Neve Campbell speaks Kiara; Liz Callaway sings for her. A good fit if a villain crooning a revenge lullaby over the cubs sounds like the best thing in it. Not for you if you expect drawing made to cinema standards.
