Deshu is a mechanic returning from Dubai to Mumbai, with no connection to politics or to crime. He is drawn into an incident by chance, and afterwards there is no way back. The film follows his climb from an ordinary man to the top of the underworld: first protection, then loyalty, then giving the orders. The rise is fast, and at every step there is someone he has left behind. The film is part of the Mumbai underworld cycle Ram Gopal Varma produced and is set in the same world as Company. It was widely reported that the character draws on Dawood Ibrahim, the best-known name in that underworld, while the makers said the story was fiction. It is Randeep Hooda's first substantial part. The telling avoids decoration; there is almost no music-number and the violence is not staged for display. Vishram Sawant directed.
