The Big Fake

Toni Chichiarelli comes to Rome to become a painter, but his talent takes him somewhere else: forgery. First he copies paintings, then he prints banknotes, and finally he finds himself in the middle of a matter of state. Stefano Lodovichi adapted the book by Nicola Biondo and Massimo Veneziani and based it on a real person, a forger who left a mark on Italy in the seventies and eighties. The film sits between noir and gangster picture and presents the political chaos of the period not as background but as the ground that made the man's work possible. Pietro Castellitto leads. It opened in Italy in October 2025 and went to Netflix in January 2026. Who it is for: viewers who like Italian crime films and period thrillers.
