What Dark and Stormy Night Is About
Set in the 1930s, the film gathers a family at a large house for the reading of Sinus Cavender’s will on the thirtieth anniversary of his death, while several other people turn up claiming their cars have broken down and shelter there from the rain. A masked phantom then appears, the guests start dying one by one, two rival reporters chase the story, and the doors of the house never quite stay shut. Larry Blamire wrote and directed the ninety three minute picture as a deliberate, exaggerated imitation of the haunted house and murder mystery films Hollywood turned out in the thirties and forties. Jim Beaver, Jennifer Blaire and Bob Burns are in the cast, and when Burns mentioned he had always wanted to play a gorilla in a film like this, Blamire wrote one into the script for him.
