Daughters

Two women who share a flat in Tokyo have been friends for years; one runs events, the other works on the fashion side. One day it turns out that one of them is pregnant, and she decides to give birth without marrying. That decision changes not only her own life but the balance between the two women; an arrangement they had built together is opened up for renegotiation in a way neither of them wanted. The film does not argue about the decision itself but tells the days that come after it. The film says that friendship too demands work and does not carry on by itself. Ayaka Miyoshi and Junko Abe appear in Hajime Tsuda’s hundred and five minute Japanese film, completed in 2020.
