What Days of Glory Is About
North African soldiers taken into the French army in the Second World War are sent to the front to liberate a country they have never seen. They wear the same uniform and are not equal in leave, promotion or food. The film does not inflate its combat; the narrative puts its weight on the everyday forms of discrimination, built out of small separate incidents. The final section concentrates on the defence of one village. Rachid Bouchareb directed. The male cast shared the best actor award at Cannes.
