Etienne Chicot What Death on a Rainy Sunday Is About
Bronsky was injured in the spine in an accident on a building site and uses a wheelchair; one of those responsible for that accident is the chief architect, David Briand. Years later Bronsky arrives at the door of Briand’s country house with his wife and their caravan, asks for help and does not say who he is. The couple settle into the house quickly: he starts work as a gardener and she as a childminder, and they set about breaking up the life of Briand and his wife Elaine from inside. Joël Santoni’s hundred and nine minute French film draws its tension not from the stranger who enters the house but from what the owners did in the past. Nicole Garcia, Dominique Lavanant and Jean-Pierre Bacri appear; it was completed in 1986.
